Richard Ramírez, born on February 29, 1960, was an American serial killer, rapist, and burglar who terrorized California from 1984 to 1985. Dubbed the "Night Stalker," he broke into homes at night, murdering and assaulting his victims in particularly brutal ways. His crimes instilled fear across Los Angeles and later San Francisco before he was finally captured in 1985.

Ramírez's killing spree lasted from June 1984 to August 1985, with a total of at least 14 murders and numerous other violent crimes, including rape, assault, and burglary.

Capture and Conviction
Ramírez was captured on August 31, 1985, in Los Angeles after a group of citizens recognized him and detained him until police arrived. In 1989, he was convicted of 13 counts of murder, 5 counts of attempted murder, 11 counts of sexual assault, and 14 counts of burglary. He was sentenced to death but died of complications from B-cell lymphoma in 2013 while awaiting execution.
