Overview
Reta Phyllis Mays was a former nursing assistant at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia, who was convicted of murdering multiple patients. Between 2017 and 2018, she administered lethal doses of insulin to elderly veterans under her care, leading to their deaths. Her actions went unnoticed for a time, but a pattern of unexplained deaths eventually led to an investigation and her arrest.Crimes and Victims
Mays worked the overnight shift at the hospital, where she had access to vulnerable patients. She was not authorized to administer medication but took advantage of her position to inject patients with excessive doses of insulin. Insulin overdoses can cause severe hypoglycemia, leading to seizures, coma, and death. The victims, many of whom were elderly veterans, suffered painful and unnecessary deaths.Confirmed Victims

- Raymond Golden (88 years old) - Died on June 3, 2018, due to an insulin overdose.
- George Shaw (81 years old) - Died on April 10, 2018, under similar circumstances.
- William Holloway (96 years old) - Died on June 12, 2018, after receiving excessive insulin.
- Waverly B. Cross Jr. (81 years old) - Died on January 29, 2018, from an insulin overdose.
