Overview
On May 6, 2023, 33-year-old Mauricio Martinez Garcia opened fire at the Allen Premium Outlets in Allen, Texas, killing eight people and wounding seven others before he was shot and killed by a nearby police officer. The attack brought the day’s death toll to nine including the perpetrator.
The Attack
The shooting began in the mid-afternoon—around 3:36 p.m. local time—at the Allen Premium Outlets, a large open-air shopping center north of Dallas. Witnesses reported the gunman exiting a vehicle and firing an AR-15–style rifle. A police officer already on scene for an unrelated call confronted and fatally shot Garcia, halting the attack.
Perpetrator
Mauricio Garcia was identified as the shooter. Publicly reported evidence indicated he had expressed neo-Nazi and white supremacist views online and wore an “RWDS” (“Right Wing Death Squad”) patch during the attack; investigators examined possible ideological motives tied to far-right extremism.
