Matthew Beck 1998 Connecticut Lottery Shootings
Overview
On March 6, 1998, Matthew E. Beck, a 35-year-old accountant at the Connecticut State Lottery headquarters in Newington, Connecticut, returned to work after a medical leave. Within roughly 30 minutes of arriving, he carried out a deadly attack—using both a semi-automatic handgun and a knife—killing four supervisors before taking his own life. The incident is known as the Connecticut Lottery killings. No videos are included here.
Details of the Attack
Beck entered the building early in the morning and carried concealed weapons under casual attire (a sweat-shirt typical of “dress-down Friday”). He first attacked inside the office, then proceeded to administrative areas, before pursuing one victim into the parking lot. As police closed in, Beck committed suicide, later dying at Hartford Hospital. He left no communication explaining his actions.
