Travis Posey: The 2024 Fordyce, Arkansas Mass Murder at the Mad Butcher Grocery
Overview
On June 21, 2024, 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey opened fire at the Mad Butcher supermarket in Fordyce, Arkansas, killing four people and wounding many others. Authorities described the attack as a random, indiscriminate mass shooting that began in the parking lot and continued inside the store before police engaged the gunman.
Timeline of the Attack
Calls reporting an active shooter came in at approximately 11:38 a.m. CDT. Investigators say Posey arrived in his truck, emerged with a 12-gauge shotgun and a 9mm pistol, and wore a bandolier carrying dozens of extra shotgun rounds. He first fired at people in the parking lot near U.S. Route 79, then moved into the store and continued shooting at customers and employees.
