Arcan Cetin and the 2016 Cascade Mall Mass Murder

Overview

On the evening of September 23, 2016, 20-year-old Arcan Cetin carried out a mass shooting inside the Macy’s at the Cascade Mall in Burlington, Washington, killing five people and injuring none. He was arrested the following day in Oak Harbor, Washington, confessed on September 26, and died by suicide in jail on April 16, 2017.

The shooting occurred at approximately 6:52 p.m. PDT on Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Macy’s store within the Cascade Mall, Burlington, Skagit County, Washington.

The Attack

According to investigative summaries and surveillance details, Cetin entered Macy’s with a stolen Ruger 10/22 rifle and opened fire at close range, first killing a teenage girl and then four adults near the cosmetics area before fleeing the scene.
