Emily Long and the 2025 Long Family Murders
Overview of the Case
On August 18, 2025, a devastating familicide occurred inside the Long family home on Moharimet Drive in Madbury, New Hampshire. According to the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, 34-year-old Emily Long shot and killed her husband, 48-year-old Ryan Long, and two of their children, eight-year-old Parker Long and six-year-old Ryan Long. Emily then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The couple's youngest child, a three-year-old boy, was discovered alive and physically unharmed inside the residence.
The deaths were initially described publicly as an apparent murder-suicide while investigators awaited autopsy findings. On August 20, 2025, state officials announced that the medical examiner's findings and evidence from the residence identified Emily as the person responsible for the three homicides. Ryan Long was shot multiple times, while Parker and the younger Ryan were each killed by a single gunshot wound. Emily was also found to have died from a single gunshot wound, which authorities determined was self-inflicted.
Discovery of the Family
New Hampshire State Police and Madbury police officers responded to the family's home during the evening of August 18 after authorities received a request to check on the household. The caller reportedly had been unable to contact members of the family and was concerned for their welfare. Officers entered the residence and found four people dead inside.
The surviving toddler was found in the home near the bodies of his family members. Authorities stated that he did not appear to have suffered physical injuries. He was removed from the scene and later placed in the care of relatives. Officials protected the child's identity because of his age and the traumatic circumstances surrounding the case.
The secluded residential property became the center of an extensive investigation involving the Madbury Police Department, New Hampshire State Police and the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office. Investigators processed the house, documented the positions of the victims and collected the firearm and other physical evidence. Officials said there was no indication that another attacker had entered the home and no continuing danger to the surrounding community.
