On the quiet morning of August 18, 2025, in the small town of Madbury, New Hampshire, a devastating scene unfolded within a family home on Moharimet Drive. Responding to a 911 call late that evening, New Hampshire State Police troopers discovered the bodies of four family members. The victims were identified as 48-year-old Ryan Long, his 34-year-old wife Emily Long, their 8-year-old son Parker Long, and their 6-year-old daughter, also named Ryan Long.
A third child, a toddler, was found physically unharmed inside the residence. All four deceased individuals had sustained gunshot wounds.
Subsequent investigation by the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and the New Hampshire State Police pointed to a tragic murder-suicide. Autopsies were conducted by the state's Chief Medical Examiner's office, which determined the cause and manner of death for each family member. The findings revealed that Ryan Long died from multiple gunshot wounds, and both Parker and young Ryan died from single gunshot wounds to the head. All three of their deaths were ruled homicides. The investigation concluded that Emily Long died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and her death was ruled a suicide.

It is believed that in the early hours of that Monday, she used a handgun from the home to kill her husband and two of their children before taking her own life. As Emily Long is deceased, there were no arrests made, and consequently, there will be no trial, conviction, or sentencing in this case. The investigation revealed a household facing significant stressors, though officials cautioned against attributing the tragedy to any single cause. The surviving toddler was placed in the care of relatives, leaving a community to grapple with the profound loss of an entire family.
