Overview
On March 22, 2017, 45-year-old Nengmy Vang carried out a deadly shooting spree across three communities in Marathon County, Wisconsin—Rothschild, Schofield, and Weston—targeting locations connected to his estranged wife and ultimately killing four people before a police standoff ended with Vang mortally wounded. - Approximately 12:27 p.m. CDT: After a heated confrontation with his wife at Marathon Savings Bank in Rothschild, Vang returned armed and shot two bank employees.
- Vang then drove to the law offices of Tlusty, Kennedy & Dirks in Schofield, where his wife’s divorce attorney, Sara Quirt Sann, was located. He forced his way to her office and fatally shot her.
- Vang retreated to his apartment in Weston. As police established a perimeter, he fired a shot that killed Detective Jason Weiland of the Everest Metropolitan Police Department on Aspen Street, triggering a prolonged standoff.
- During the hours-long standoff, Vang called 911 multiple times, expressed anger when power to his apartment was cut, and threatened additional violence against officers before being shot by law enforcement. He was transported to a hospital.
