Wesley Neal Higdon — Henderson, Kentucky Workplace Mass Murder (2008)
Overview
In the early morning of June 25, 2008, 25-year-old Wesley Neal Higdon carried out a workplace mass shooting at the Atlantis Plastics factory in Henderson, Kentucky. Over the span of minutes around 12:20 a.m. CDT, he shot and killed five coworkers, critically injured another, and then died by suicide. The attack remains the deadliest homicide event in Henderson County history.
Timeline of Events — June 25, 2008
According to contemporaneous reports and later summaries, Higdon had been reprimanded by his supervisor, Kevin G. Taylor, earlier in the shift. After an argument and as Taylor escorted him from the building, Higdon retrieved a .45-caliber Hi-Point Model JHP pistol from his vehicle and fatally shot Taylor outside the plant entrance. He then re-entered the facility, shot four workers in the break room, proceeded onto the factory floor where he shot another coworker, and ultimately turned the gun on himself. Police later said Higdon had phoned his girlfriend roughly two hours before the attack, stating he intended to kill his boss.
