On a tragic Friday in Fordyce, Arkansas, Shirley Kay Taylor’s life was cut short in a sudden and violent act. The 62-year-old woman was among the victims of a mass shooting that unfolded at the Mad Butcher grocery store on June 21, 2024. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as a gunman opened fire in the parking lot and inside the store, sending shoppers scrambling for cover.
Taylor, a beloved grandmother, was fatally wounded during the rampage that claimed the lives of three other individuals and left numerous others injured, including law enforcement officers. In the aftermath of the shooting, a suspect, identified as 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey of New Edinburg, was taken into custody after being shot by police.
Authorities have announced that Posey will face four counts of capital murder, with the possibility of additional charges pending. While the community of Fordyce grieves the senseless loss of life, the motive behind the tragic shooting remains unknown.
