On June 21, 2024, a mass shooting occurred at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas. Among the victims was Ellen Shrum, an 81-year-old civilian who was fatally injured during the incident.

Ellen Shrum was one of the four civilians who lost their lives in the shooting. Initially, three people were confirmed dead at the scene: Shirley Taylor, 62; Callie Weems, 23; and Roy Sturgis, 50. However, Ellen Shrum succumbed to her injuries, becoming the fourth fatality.
