Ryan Sneed and the 2026 Adair County Triple Murder

Overview of the Case

Ryan Sneed was identified by Kentucky State Police as the gunman responsible for killing three people at separate residences in Adair County, Kentucky, on April 20, 2026. Sneed, a resident of Columbia, Kentucky, was described in official reports as being 38 or 39 years old. His victims included his mother, his aunt and a 37-year-old acquaintance. The killings unfolded across three locations before developing into an hours-long armed standoff on Chestnut Grove Road. The violence shocked Adair County, a largely rural community where a multiple-location homicide of this scale was considered extremely unusual. Investigators determined that Joyce Sneed and Debra Clark had been killed in their respective homes, while Michael Adam Curry was found dead inside the Chestnut Grove Road residence where Ryan Sneed later barricaded himself. Authorities said Sneed had made threats to kill members of his family, causing officers to urgently conduct welfare checks at other residences while the standoff remained active.

The Shooting of Michael Adam Curry

The investigation began during the morning of Monday, April 20, 2026. At approximately 9:40 a.m., Adair County emergency dispatchers received an urgent report connected to a shooting. Shortly before 11:00 a.m. Central Time, deputies were directed to a residence on Chestnut Grove Road in Adair County. A caller reported that his brother, 37-year-old Michael Adam Curry, had been shot inside or near the residence. When an Adair County sheriff's deputy arrived, Ryan Sneed allegedly opened fire from the property. Multiple rounds struck near the deputy, forcing her to take cover beside or behind her patrol cruiser. Another person who was outside the residence was also trapped by the gunfire. The deputy reportedly helped that individual reach cover while shots continued to come from the home. Sneed then barricaded himself inside the Chestnut Grove Road residence. Officers were initially unable to enter and determine Curry's condition because Sneed continued firing at law enforcement. The deputy and the other individual remained pinned down until members of the Kentucky State Police Special Response Team reached them and escorted them to safety.

The Murders of Joyce Sneed and Debra Clark

While the confrontation continued, investigators learned that Ryan Sneed had allegedly threatened to kill members of his family. Police began checking residences associated with his relatives to determine whether anyone else was in danger. These welfare checks revealed that two women had already been killed at separate locations in Adair County. At a residence on Lakeview Drive, detectives found Sneed's mother, 67-year-old Joyce Sneed, dead inside the home. At another residence on Henson Road, approximately 35 minutes from the Chestnut Grove Road scene, officers found his aunt, 63-year-old Debra Clark, dead. The Adair County coroner pronounced both women dead at their respective residences. Authorities subsequently identified Ryan Sneed as the person responsible for all three killings. Although the precise order and exact times of the three shootings were not immediately released, evidence indicated that Sneed moved between the different locations before barricading himself at the Chestnut Grove Road residence with Curry's body still inside. ...
