Syed Rizwan Farook – 2015 San Bernardino Mass Shooting

Overview

On December 2, 2015, Syed Rizwan Farook, alongside his wife Tashfeen Malik, carried out a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California. The attack targeted a holiday gathering of employees from the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, where Farook worked. The assault left 14 people dead and 22 others seriously wounded, marking it as one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the United States since September 11, 2001.

The Attack

The shooting occurred at the Inland Regional Center, a facility that provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Farook and Malik entered a rented conference room where the county employees had gathered for a training session and holiday luncheon. Both were armed with semi-automatic rifles and handguns. After opening fire on the group, they fled the scene. Hours later, they were killed in a shootout with law enforcement officers in Redlands, California.
