Overview

On the evening of January 30, 2006, former U.S. Postal Service employee Jennifer San Marco, 44, carried out a deadly shooting spree in Santa Barbara County, California. She first killed a former neighbor at a Santa Barbara condominium complex, then drove to her former workplace—the USPS Processing and Distribution Center in Goleta—where she shot and killed six postal employees before taking her own life. It remains one of the deadliest workplace shootings committed by a woman in the United States.

Timeline of Events (January 30, 2006)

• ~7:15 p.m., Santa Barbara: San Marco shot her former neighbor, Beverly Graham, in Graham’s condo. Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot around this time.
• ~9:00 p.m., Goleta USPS facility: After tailgating another car through the lot gate and obtaining an employee badge at gunpoint to access the building, San Marco began shooting outside and inside the facility. She ultimately died by suicide on-site.
