Lee Boyd Malvo: The D.C. Sniper

Early Life

Lee Boyd Malvo was born on February 18, 1985, in Kingston, Jamaica. Raised primarily by his mother, Una James, Malvo's childhood was marked by instability and frequent relocations. In 2001, at the age of 16, Malvo moved to the United States, where he eventually crossed paths with John Allen Muhammad, a Gulf War veteran. Muhammad became a father figure to Malvo, and their relationship would soon lead to a series of tragic events.

The D.C. Sniper Attacks

Between October 2 and October 22, 2002, Malvo and Muhammad carried out a series of coordinated sniper attacks in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, causing widespread fear and panic. Their method involved shooting victims from a modified vehicle, making the attacks appear random and the perpetrators difficult to apprehend.

Victims of the D.C. Sniper Attacks

• James D. Martin - October 2, 2002: A 55-year-old program analyst was shot and killed in a grocery store parking lot in Wheaton, Maryland.
• James L. "Sonny" Buchanan - October 3, 2002: A 39-year-old landscaper was fatally shot while mowing grass at a commercial establishment near Rockville, Maryland.
• Premkumar Walekar - October 3, 2002: A 54-year-old part-time taxi driver was killed while pumping gasoline at a station in Aspen Hill, Maryland.
• Sarah Ramos - October 3, 2002: A 34-year-old babysitter and housekeeper was shot while sitting on a bench reading a book in Silver Spring, Maryland.
• Lori Ann Lewis-Rivera - October 3, 2002: A 25-year-old nanny was killed while vacuuming her van at a Kensington, Maryland, gas station.
• Pascal Charlot - October 3, 2002: A 72-year-old retired carpenter was shot while walking in Washington, D.C.
• Dean Harold Meyers - October 9, 2002: A 53-year-old civil engineer was fatally shot while pumping gasoline at a station near Manassas, Virginia.
• Kenneth Bridges - October 11, 2002: A 53-year-old businessman was killed at a gas station near Fredericksburg, Virginia.
• Linda Franklin - October 14, 2002: A 47-year-old FBI analyst was shot in a Home Depot parking lot in Falls Church, Virginia.
• Conrad Johnson - October 22, 2002: A 35-year-old bus driver was killed while standing on the steps of his bus in Aspen Hill, Maryland.
