Dean Harold Meyers, a 53-year-old civil engineer, had just finished a long day at work on the evening of October 9, 2002. He stopped at a Sunoco gas station on Sudley Road in Manassas, Virginia, to fuel his car for the commute home. As he stood by his gray Mazda at the pump, a single, fatal shot from a high-powered rifle ended his life.
