On the evening of Friday, August 19, 2022, 25-year-old Dalton Jakob Moore was shot and killed outside a 7-Eleven in Manassas, Virginia. Moore, a male, was with another 25-year-old man at the corner of Sudley Manor Drive and Manor Drive when they were approached by a third man. After a brief interaction, the man opened fire on both individuals. The shooting occurred around 8:28 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they provided medical aid to Moore, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was expected to survive. According to investigators, Moore and two acquaintances were sitting on the sidewalk outside the 7-Eleven when the suspect approached them from behind the building. Following a short exchange, the suspect drew a handgun and fired multiple times, striking Moore and one of his companions.
Authorities described the suspect as a heavyset Hispanic male with short, dark hair and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black shorts. After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene in a light-colored sedan. K-9 units were deployed to search for the shooter, but they were unsuccessful in locating him. The Prince William County Police Department released images of the suspect and the vehicle involved and offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
In February 2023, the Prince William County Police Department announced that the homicide investigation was closed. Detectives had identified a 19-year-old man from Manassas as the primary suspect responsible for Moore's death and the injury of the second victim. The investigation revealed that the shooting was related to a prior debt and that the suspect and Moore were known to each other. However, before charges could be filed, the teenage suspect was killed in a separate and unrelated incident. Due to the suspect's death, his identity was not released, and no other individuals were sought in connection with the shooting.
