In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday evening, a young man's life was cut short in what police have described as an accidental shooting. Reynaldo Jesus Villalobos Hernandez, a 21-year-old male, was fatally wounded on July 15, 2023, inside a residence in Manassas, Virginia. The incident occurred at a home located in the 8300 block of Scotland Loop, where Villalobos Hernandez was with two acquaintances.
According to the Prince William County Police Department, the three men were passing around a loaded handgun. The situation took a deadly turn when one of the acquaintances, identified as 27-year-old Daniel Villalobos Marquez, was handling the firearm. Authorities reported that Villalobos Marquez 'neglectfully discharged the handgun,' firing a single round that struck Villalobos Hernandez in the chest. Responding officers provided first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived and transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation into the fatal shooting, authorities arrested Daniel Villalobos Marquez the next day, on Sunday, July 16, 2023. He has been charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter. Villalobos Marquez was taken into custody and is being held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. A preliminary hearing for his case was scheduled for October 17.
Family members shared that Reynaldo Jesus Villalobos Hernandez had moved to the United States approximately 18 months before his death in pursuit of a better life. Described by his aunt as a 'cheerful, hard-working, sociable, positive boy full of life and dreams,' he was financially supporting his family back home. In the wake of his death, his family organized a fundraiser to help with the costs of his burial and to repatriate his body to his parents.
