In the quiet evening of November 21, 2023, a residence on Jessica Drive in Manassas Park, Virginia, became the scene of a tragedy that would irrevocably alter the lives of two families. It was there that 25-year-old Jose Alonso Bedregal of Bristow, Virginia, lost his life to a fatal gunshot wound. Known to his loved ones as Alonso, he was remembered as a kind and warm individual who cherished spending time with his family. A graduate of Patriot High School, he was employed at Paul Davis Restoration. His life was cut short in an act of violence that stemmed from a domestic dispute involving a close friend.
The events of that evening unfolded after Anthony Omar Andrade, 26, returned to his home intoxicated and began arguing with his wife. Seeking to de-escalate the situation, Andrade's wife contacted Jose Alonso Bedregal, who arrived at the residence in an attempt to calm his friend. However, the argument escalated, and in a fateful turn, Andrade retrieved a firearm from a gun safe, loaded it, and shot Bedregal in the chest. When officers from the Manassas Park Police Department arrived at approximately 7:37 PM, they found Bedregal with a gunshot wound and Andrade with bloodstains on his clothing. Despite the immediate response, Bedregal was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Anthony Andrade was promptly arrested and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was held without bond at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center. The legal proceedings that followed culminated on November 7, 2024, when Prince William County Circuit Court Judge Angela Horan sentenced Andrade to 30 years in prison for the murder of his friend. The sentence consisted of a 40-year term with 10 years suspended, to be followed by five years of supervised probation upon his release. The case, prosecuted by Senior Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Garrett Jagtiani, concluded with Andrade's guilty plea to the murder charge. In the wake of this senseless act, the families of both men were left to grapple with the devastating consequences of a night where friendship and reason were tragically overcome by anger and violence.
