Barbara Ann Evans
Background
Barbara Ann Evans, born in 1941 in Troutman, North Carolina, was a 65-year-old woman living in Statesville. She had no criminal record and was considered an unremarkable member of the community until she was arrested in 2006 for the brutal murders of two elderly couples. The killings stunned rural Iredell County and left a community grasping for answers.
The Crimes
In 2005, two double homicides occurred within months of each other in the same North Carolina county. Both scenes involved elderly couples who had been shot to death in their homes. The investigation revealed that the same firearm had been used in both killings. Barbara Evans was the only individual with known connections to all four victims.
