Early Life and Initial Offenses
Born on August 6, 1975, in Harris County, Texas, Franklin DeWayne Alix was raised in a strict household. As a youth, he was active in his church, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. However, his early adulthood saw a shift towards criminal activities. In September 1992, at the age of 17, Alix attempted to steal a bus, leading to a 10-minute police chase and a subsequent six-month sentence for theft. The following year, on April 8, 1993, he stole a woman's car from her driveway and was later arrested while driving the stolen vehicle, resulting in a three-year sentence for motor theft. In July 1996, he was found illegally carrying a pistol and ammunition, leading to a 70-day jail term.
Escalation to Violent Crimes
In August 1997, Alix began a six-month violent crime spree in Houston, Texas. His offenses predominantly took place in apartment complexes and involved multiple kidnappings, robberies, sexual assaults, and murders.
August 8, 1997: Murder of Gregorio Ramirez
Alix allegedly shot 41-year-old Gregorio Ramirez during an attempted robbery in an apartment parking lot. Ramirez's widow later identified Alix as the shooter.
