Knapp's crimes spanned several years and involved brutal assaults and murders. Below are the known victims of his heinous acts:- Emma Littleman - Murdered in a lumberyard in Cincinnati on June 21, 1894.
- Mary Eckert - Murdered on Walnut Street in Cincinnati on August 1, 1894.
- Jennie Connors Knapp - Alfred's second wife, murdered on Liberty Street in Cincinnati on August 17, 1894.
- Ida Gebhard - A child, murdered in Indianapolis in July 1896.
- Hannah Knapp - Alfred's third wife, murdered on December 21, 1902, in Cincinnati. Her body was disposed of in the Great Miami River.
Arrest and Confession
Knapp was arrested on February 25, 1903, on suspicion of murdering his wife, Hannah Knapp. During his interrogation, he confessed not only to her murder but also to the killings of four other women and a girl.
