Sean Paul Hanify: A Detailed Account of His Crimes

Overview

Sean Paul Hanify, born on January 20, 1970, is a self-confessed serial killer whose criminal activities spanned from 1989 to 2002 across California and Colorado. While he has claimed responsibility for multiple murders, only a few have been substantiated by law enforcement. Hanify's modus operandi varied, involving both stabbing and bludgeoning, often targeting individuals he knew or those within vulnerable communities.

Documented Crimes

  • August 5, 2002 – Edward Brown (59): In Denver, Colorado, Hanify brutally murdered his roommate, Edward Brown. The attack involved torture, stabbing, evisceration, and setting the body on fire after bludgeoning Brown with a claw hammer. Firefighters discovered Brown's body on August 6, 2002, when responding to a fire at his apartment located at 810 E. 12th Ave. Hanify confessed to this crime, citing retaliation for a previous imprisonment related to stealing Brown's VCR.
  • July 24, 2000 – Mark Davis (44): Hanify claimed responsibility for the murder of Mark Davis, a homeless man, whom he allegedly killed with a stone under a bridge near Cherry Creek, Colorado.

Additional Allegations

Hanify has confessed to several other murders, though many remain uncorroborated:
  • Mid-January 1989: Hanify asserts his first attempted murder occurred at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf around this time.
  • Late January 1989: Approximately a week after his initial attempt, Hanify claims to have committed his first murder.
  • 1991 or early 1992: He alleges the murder of a homosexual man in San Francisco during this period.
  • February 13, 1992 – James Holman: Holman was found dead in Denver. Hanify was questioned regarding this homicide.
  • September 15, 1992 – Robert Ferrell (57): Ferrell, a driver, was found stabbed in his Denver apartment. Hanify was questioned about this case in 1992 and later claimed responsibility.
  • December 29, 1992 – Anthony Carr (33): Carr was discovered stabbed, hidden under a blanket near his Christmas tree. Hanify confessed to this murder.
