Early Life and Criminal Background
Robert Carl Hohenberger was born in 1943 in Indiana. His family later relocated to Riverside County, California. In the mid-1960s, Hohenberger volunteered as an auxiliary police officer. However, he exploited his position to assault women. In 1966, he was arrested for raping a woman at gunpoint. Although convicted, he served only a brief sentence due to a plea deal. In 1971, he kidnapped two girls at gunpoint in Laguna Beach, leading to a life imprisonment sentence with the possibility of parole after six months. While incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison, he escaped in 1974 but was recaptured shortly after. Released on parole in August 1977, he resumed his criminal activities, abducting and assaulting a girl in Palm Desert in October of the same year. Fleeing California in January 1978, he evaded authorities by adopting aliases.Crimes in Louisiana
