On August 8, 1997, 41-year-old Hispanic male Gregorio Ramirez was fatally shot during an attempted robbery in an apartment parking lot in Houston, Texas. His widow later identified the assailant as Franklin DeWayne Alix, an African-American male born on August 6, 1975. This incident marked the beginning of a violent crime spree by Alix, who was 22 years old at the time.
