Carlos Benjamin, 34, male, was shot and killed on Saturday, July 26, 2025, inside an apartment on the 15300 block of Park Row Drive in west Houston. Officers responding around 12:45 p.m. found him unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds, and Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to Houston police, the shooting followed an argument between Benjamin and his younger brother, 26-year-old John Caya Byrd.
Patrol officers located Byrd, who stated he had shot his brother; he was taken into custody, interviewed by detectives, and subsequently charged with murder in the 497th State District Court before being transported to the Harris County Jail. The investigation is being handled by HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Roberts and Detective M. Althaus. Authorities have not detailed what sparked the dispute.
