Overview
The Phantom Killer, also known as the Texarkana Moonlight Murderer, was an unidentified serial killer who terrorized the Texarkana region in 1946. The killer is believed to have attacked eight people, five of whom died, over a ten-week period from February to May 1946. The attacks occurred at night, primarily on weekends, and targeted couples in secluded areas.First Attack: February 22, 1946
- Victims: Jimmy Hollis (25) and Mary Jeanne Larey (19)
- Location: Secluded road outside Texarkana, Texas
- Details: The couple was parked on a secluded road when they were approached by an armed man wearing a burlap sack with eye holes. The assailant beat Hollis with a gun, fracturing his skull, and sexually assaulted Larey before fleeing.
Second Attack: March 24, 1946
- Victims: Richard Griffin (29) and Polly Ann Moore (17)
- Location: Bowie County back road, Texas
- Details: The couple was found shot in the back of the head with a .32 revolver. Blood stains indicated they were killed outside the car and then placed back inside.
