Early Life
Joseph Robert Kondro, born on May 19, 1959, in Marquette, Michigan, was adopted by John and Elenor Kondro. He grew up in Iron River, Michigan, before moving to Castle Rock, Washington. Kondro exhibited psychopathic tendencies from an early age, including frequent fights, killing animals, and drinking alcohol as early as age 7. He also admitted to molesting young girls while still a child and developed fantasies about murder as he grew older.
Criminal Activities
Kondro amassed a lengthy criminal record, including auto and petty theft, drunk driving, domestic abuse, drug dealing, and forgery. He had several children but was unable to care for them due to his drug addiction and recurring troubles with the law.
Victims
- Chila Silvernails: An 8-year-old girl from Kalama, Washington, who vanished on April 20, 1982, on her way to catch a school bus. Her nude body was found the day after her disappearance; she had been raped and strangled.
- Rima Traxler: An 8-year-old third-grader at St. Helens Elementary School in Longview, Washington, who went missing on May 15, 1985. Her body was found later, and she had been raped and murdered.
- Kara Rudd: A 12-year-old student of Monticello Middle School in Longview, Washington, who disappeared on November 21, 1996. Her remains were found on January 4, 1997, in an abandoned Volkswagen car. She had been raped and murdered.
