Overview

Chester Dewayne Turner, born on November 5, 1966, in Warren, Arkansas, is a convicted American serial killer and sex offender. Between 1987 and 1998, Turner was responsible for the sexual assault and murder of fourteen women in Los Angeles, California. His crimes predominantly targeted vulnerable women, including those involved in sex work or struggling with homelessness. Turner was apprehended in 2002 and subsequently sentenced to death in 2007 and again in 2014 for his heinous acts.

Early Life

Turner relocated to Los Angeles with his mother at the age of five after his parents separated. He attended public schools in Los Angeles but dropped out of high school. As a young adult, Turner worked for Domino's Pizza as a cook and delivery person. After his mother moved to Utah, he lived in various homeless shelters and missions in Los Angeles. Turner fathered four children with different women, some of whom were raised by his mother following his arrest. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Turner had multiple incarcerations for offenses such as theft and drug possession. In 2002, he was sentenced to eight years in prison for raping a woman earlier that year. While incarcerated, DNA analysis linked Turner to numerous unsolved murders and rapes.

• Diane Johnson (21): March 9, 1987 – Found partially nude and strangled in a roadway construction area west of the Harbor Freeway.
• Elandra Joyce Bunn (33): June 5, 1987 – Discovered nude in a pile of trash in Los Angeles.
• Annette Ernest (26): October 29, 1987 – Found partially nude and strangled on a road shoulder in Los Angeles.
• Anita Fishman Breier (31): January 1989 – Strangled and left partially nude outside a garage in an alley off Figueroa Street.
• Regina Nadine Washington (27): September 23, 1989 – Six months pregnant; found partially nude and strangled inside a garage off Figueroa Street.
• Debra Williams (32): November 16, 1992 – Found dead in the 400 block of West 98th Street in Vermont Vista.
• Mary Edwards (41): December 16, 1992 – Discovered on the 9700 block of South Figueroa Street in Vermont Vista.
• Andrea Tripplett (29): April 1993 – Strangled and found partially nude behind a vacant building on Figueroa Street; she was months pregnant at the time.
• Desarae Ellemae Jones (29): May 16, 1993 – Found strangled and partially nude in a backyard in Los Angeles.
• Natalie Joan Price (31): February 12, 1995 – Found partially nude and strangled next to a vacant residence in Vermont Knolls.
• Mildred Williams Beasley (45): November 6, 1996 – Discovered partially nude and strangled among bushes alongside the 110 Freeway.
• Cynthia Annette Johnson (30): February 1997 – Found strangled to death in the Green Meadows neighborhood of South Los Angeles.
• Paula Donnell Vance (38): February 3, 1998 – Strangled during the commission of a rape, which was partially captured on surveillance video; her body was found in the Olympia Tool business in Azusa.
• Brenda Bries (37): April 6, 1998 – Found strangled in a portable toilet near Little Tokyo, just 50 yards from the hotel where Turner was staying at the time.
