On January 1, 2023, at approximately 3:30 a.m., 24-year-old Austin Milligan of Moreno Valley was fatally shot in South Los Angeles. The incident occurred near the intersection of 20th Street and Maple Avenue. Upon arrival, Los Angeles Police Department officers found Milligan deceased at the scene from a gunshot wound. Another man in his twenties was also shot and transported to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The Los Angeles County coroner's office confirmed Milligan's identity and his cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head, ruling the manner of death as homicide. The case was assigned number 2023-00003 by the coroner's office.
