Overview

In the early morning of August 5, 2020, a house fire set in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch neighborhood killed five members of two Senegalese immigrant families. Prosecutors said the blaze was ignited as part of a misguided revenge plot after a stolen phone was incorrectly traced to the home. Three teenagers—Kevin Bui, Gavin Seymour, and Dillon Siebert—were later identified as the perpetrators. Seymour, who was 16 at the time, ultimately pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison in March 2024.
