John Anthony Fabrizio and the 2026 Douglas Family Murders
Overview
On the night of Friday, October 9, 2026, a quiet street in Douglas, Georgia, became the scene of a devastating family tragedy. Inside a home on Robin Lane, 64-year-old John Anthony Fabrizio shot and killed his wife, his two adult sons, and one son's girlfriend before turning the gun on himself. The murder-suicide unfolded hours after police had been called to the home for a domestic dispute, and just a month after John's wife had filed for divorce. The incident left the small Coffee County community in shock and mourning the loss of an entire family.
The Attack on Robin Lane
At approximately 11:09 p.m., the Douglas Police Department received a 911 call reporting an active shooter at 1807 Robin Lane in the Touchton Woods neighborhood. The call was placed by one of the victims, John's wife, Rachel Fabrizio. When officers and Coffee County sheriff's deputies arrived, they entered the home and discovered a horrific scene.
Four adults were found dead from gunshot wounds inside the residence. A fifth victim, Rachel, was found alive but critically injured. Emergency medical services transported her to Coffee Regional Medical Center, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Investigators quickly determined the incident was a murder-suicide. The Douglas Police Department stated that based on physical and digital evidence collected at the scene, John Fabrizio had fatally shot the four other family members before taking his own life. Authorities confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public and they were not seeking any other suspects.
The Victims
The shooting claimed the lives of four people, all of whom lived in the home with the perpetrator.
- Rachel Elizabeth Fabrizio, 64 — She was John Fabrizio's wife of 33 years and the owner of the home on Robin Lane. She had filed for divorce just one month before her death. According to a separation agreement, she worked as an e-commerce supervisor at a local Walmart.
- James Nicholas Fabrizio, 28 — He was one of John and Rachel's three sons and lived at the family home.
- William Christopher Fabrizio, 26 — John and Rachel's youngest son, he also resided at the Robin Lane address.
- Rosaida Figueroa Berrios, 26 — She was James Fabrizio's girlfriend and lived with the family in their Douglas home.
The Perpetrator
The shooter was identified by police as John Anthony Fabrizio, 64. He and his wife, Rachel, had married in Maryland in 1993. Court records show they had separated in 2020, and Rachel filed a petition for divorce in the Superior Court of Coffee County on September 9, 2026, exactly one month before the murders. John Fabrizio's formal response to the divorce petition was stamped by the court on October 9, the very day of the shooting. In 2020, he was employed as a maintenance manager for the Walmart in Douglas. All five people involved in the shooting resided together in the home owned by Rachel.
Warning Signs and Motive
The primary motive for the killings appears to be the recent divorce filing. The murders occurred on the same day John Fabrizio officially responded to his wife's petition to end their 33-year marriage.
There were clear warning signs of escalating conflict within the home. Police records revealed that officers had been called to the residence for a domestic disturbance just over a month earlier, on September 4, 2026. During that incident, John and his son James were involved in a verbal altercation after James unplugged security cameras in the house.
More ominously, police were dispatched to the home again at around 7:41 p.m. on the night of the shooting, just hours before the murders. Rachel had called 911 complaining that her husband was smoking inside the house and that the smoke was "killing her" because she suffered from asthma. Officers found John on the front porch with a cigar and a beer. They spoke with Rachel in a back bedroom where she was using a breathing treatment. Police advised John to smoke outside to "keep the peace," and EMS was called to check on Rachel. A few hours later, Rachel would call 911 again as her husband began his deadly rampage.
Investigation and Aftermath
The Douglas Police Department led the investigation with assistance from the Coffee County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The bodies of all five deceased were sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsies. Investigators processed the scene, collecting what they described as significant physical and digital evidence that pointed conclusively to a murder-suicide perpetrated by John Fabrizio.
In the days following the tragedy, city and law enforcement officials held a press conference to address the community. Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruette and Mayor Tony Paulk expressed their condolences to the family's loved ones and acknowledged the profound impact of the loss. Mayor Paulk noted the tragic timing of the event, as October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. "This tragedy reminds us that domestic violence is not something that happens only in other communities," Paulk said. "It can happen right here, among our neighbors, friends and families."
The shooting was the third consecutive weekend of mass gun violence in Georgia, following a deadly block party shooting in Vienna and a multi-victim shooting at a birthday party in Macon, heightening statewide concerns about gun violence. The Douglas Police Department asked anyone with further information to contact their investigators but stated they were not seeking any other suspects. The case was closed following the determination of murder-suicide.
