Dimitrios Pagourtzis and the 2018 Santa Fe High School Shooting
Overview
On May 18, 2018, a 17-year-old student, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, carried out a mass shooting at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas. Ten people—eight students and two educators—were killed, and more than a dozen others were wounded. Pagourtzis was taken into custody the same morning. Authorities reported he used a shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver, and improvised explosive devices were also discovered at the school and nearby locations. The attack began around the start of first period in an art classroom area.

Date: Friday, May 18, 2018. Location: Santa Fe High School, Santa Fe, Galveston County, Texas. Within minutes of the first shots, on-site officers engaged the gunman and contained him in a section of the school before he surrendered.
Weapons and Devices
Investigators stated the shooter used a shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver—firearms obtained from his father—and that law enforcement recovered multiple explosive devices (including pipe bombs and pressure cookers) on campus and in surrounding areas.
