Aaron Kyle McLeod, a 15-year-old male student at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, tragically lost his life on May 18, 2018. He was born on February 20, 2003, in Chico, California, and had been a resident of Santa Fe since 2011. Aaron was known for his love of biology, history, and musicals, as well as his passion for playing tennis and video games.
He was remembered as a bright student, a great athlete, and a wonderful son, brother, grandson, and friend.
Aaron was one of the ten victims of the Santa Fe High School shooting, which also left thirteen others injured. The shooter, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, a 17-year-old student at the school, turned himself in to authorities and was charged with capital murder. The tragic event shook the community and led to a series of investigations and legal proceedings.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Santa Fe City Council held a moment of silence and prayers to honor the victims, including Aaron. The community came together to support one another and to remember those who were lost. The shooter's parents faced a civil trial, where survivors and witnesses recounted the harrowing events of that day. The trial brought to light the emotional toll the shooting had on the survivors, many of whom continue to struggle with PTSD and other mental health issues.
Aaron's death was a devastating loss for his family, friends, and the entire Santa Fe community. His memory lives on through the love and support of those who knew him and through the ongoing efforts to prevent such tragedies in the future.
