Christopher Jake "Chris" Stone, a 17-year-old male student of Hispanic ethnicity from Santa Fe, Texas, tragically lost his life on May 18, 2018. Chris was a junior at Santa Fe High School and an active member of the school's JV football team and ultimate frisbee team. He was known for his sweet, loving, and down-to-earth personality, often being the life of the party with his singing, laughter, and dance battles.
Chris died during the Santa Fe High School shooting, where a gunman entered
his art classroom and began shooting. Chris heroically tried to save his classmates by barricading the closet door to prevent the shooter from reaching them. Unfortunately, he was one of ten people killed in the tragic incident.
Following the shooting, the suspect, Dimitrios Pagourtzis, was arrested and charged with capital murder. The legal proceedings revealed that Pagourtzis had taken the firearms from his parents' home without their knowledge. In response, Chris Stone's parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the suspect's parents, claiming negligence in securing the firearms.
The case drew significant media attention and public outcry, highlighting issues of gun control and parental responsibility. The Stone family, along with other victims' families, sought justice and accountability for the loss of their loved ones.
