On April 8, 2023, 14-year-old Adiel Garcia Aguirre and 15-year-old Cesar Christopher Trochez-Maravilla were found deceased in a vehicle near County Roads 5260 and 5200 in the Santa Fe subdivision south of Plum Grove, Texas. Both teenagers had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and their vehicle was discovered approximately 50-60 feet from a group mailbox by a resident checking their mail.
Investigators believe the teens may have been conversing with someone prior to the shooting, as the vehicle was found running and in drive, suggesting they attempted to flee when the gunfire erupted. The car ultimately became stuck in a muddy area off the main road. Both victims were former students of Santa Fe Middle School and had recently transitioned to homeschooling.
The Liberty County Sheriff's Office has been actively seeking leads, interviewing potential witnesses, and speaking with the victims' acquaintances to uncover any possible motives or suspects. The area has experienced ongoing issues with gang activity; however, authorities have not confirmed whether this particular incident is gang-related. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspect descriptions have been released.
