Vincent Darrell Groves: A Detailed Account of His Crimes
Introduction
Vincent Darrell Groves was an American serial killer who operated in Denver, Colorado, between 1978 and 1988. He was responsible for the deaths of at least seven women, with some estimates suggesting he may have killed over 20 victims. Groves' crimes were characterized by the strangulation of mostly prostitutes, and his guilt was conclusively proven in four murders with the help of DNA profiling in 2012, 16 years after his death.
Early Life
Vincent Groves was born on April 19, 1954, in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in the suburb of Wheat Ridge and attended Wheat Ridge High School, where he was a star basketball player. After high school, he briefly attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but dropped out and returned to Denver. Groves worked as an electrician and spent much of his free time in the red-light districts, eventually leading a criminal lifestyle.
Criminal Career
Groves' criminal activities began in the late 1970s. He met 17-year-old Jeanette Baca in 1977 and persuaded her to engage in prostitution. On June 11, 1978, Baca's naked body was found in the woodland in Jefferson County. Although Groves was interrogated, there was no evidence to charge him at the time.
