Herbert Arnold: A Detailed Account of His Crimes
Early Crimes
In April 1965, Herbert Arnold committed his first known murders. He shot Ruth Burke, aged 43, and her daughter Carol Burke, aged 13, in New York. Carol had been raped before her murder. Arnold was declared unfit to stand trial and was not imprisoned for these crimes.
Subsequent Crimes
While free, Arnold renamed himself Tony and started a family. However, his psychotic tendencies resurfaced. In 1973, he committed another murder and was convicted of manslaughter. He was paroled in 1983. In the 1990s, Arnold was convicted of raping and murdering a 16-year-old. He escaped prison with a mafia enforcer in 1994.
Kidnapping and Torture
Arnold's violent streak continued with the kidnapping and rape of a 16-year-old neighbor, along with two accomplices. He later kidnapped and tortured these accomplices. In 1991, he made a fake bomb threat and held several people hostage.
