Sheriff Groves Benton Hammett, aged 34, tragically lost his life on September 28, 1913, in Harriston, Mississippi. Sheriff Hammett and Constable Frank Kinstly were both victims of a violent shooting spree initiated by two brothers who had become intoxicated while gambling.
