Alvin Taylor: A Detailed Account of His Crimes

Early Life and Background

Alvin Taylor was born in 1947 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Little is known about his early life, but he reportedly faced indifference and physical abuse from his parents. Despite these challenges, Taylor developed interests in songwriting, meditation, and psychotherapy. In the late 1960s, he pursued a career as a musician, touring the Northeastern United States with various bands. However, around 1969, Taylor experienced his first psychotic break, marked by paranoid delusions that people were plotting to kill him. By the mid-1970s, his mental health had deteriorated significantly, leading to multiple hospitalizations and a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Additionally, in 1980, he was convicted for delivering crack cocaine in Medford and sentenced to four years in prison.

Murder of Robert L. Williams

On July 15, 1985, Taylor committed his first known murder. His victim was:
  • Robert L. Williams, 38, a computer company employee and friend of Taylor, was shot with a .357 Magnum in Spring Brook, Wisconsin. Taylor buried Williams' body in the backyard of his rented home, covering it with quicklime. The remains were discovered two years later by a subsequent tenant who alerted the authorities.

Murder of James A. Severson

On May 21, 1986, Taylor murdered his next-door neighbor:
  • James A. Severson, 42, was stabbed multiple times in his Eau Claire, Wisconsin apartment. Taylor attacked Severson, stabbing him in the neck. When the knife blade broke, a struggle ensued, culminating in Taylor choking Severson and retrieving a butcher knife from the kitchen to finish the assault.
