His criminal activities spanned from 1985 to 1988, primarily targeting female hitchhikers in the San Diego area. Porter was known for his methodical approach, often luring victims into his vehicle under the guise of offering assistance, only to subject them to violent assaults.

Modus Operandi

Porter's typical method involved cruising areas frequented by hitchhikers, such as San Diego's El Cajon Boulevard. He presented himself as friendly and non-threatening, making it easier to gain the trust of his victims. Once they were in his car, Porter would drive to secluded locations, often intersections with a 'V' in the road, a characteristic feature of his chosen crime scenes. He would then employ tactics to render his victims vulnerable, such as pretending to need a bathroom break or asking them to retrieve something from the back seat. This allowed him to position himself advantageously to overpower them. His assaults commonly involved choking the victims into unconsciousness and sexual assault. He would then leave them in remote areas, often with their clothing disheveled, reflecting the violent nature of the attack.

• Sandra Cwik: Age 43, July 1988, Buckman Springs, California. Cwik was a transient hitchhiking when she encountered Porter. Her decomposed body was discovered days later.
