Jerome Dennis: The Serial Killer of New Jersey

Early Life

Jerome Dennis was born on December 14, 1966, in Newark, New Jersey. He was the seventh of nine children and was raised primarily by his mother. Dennis had a troubled childhood, starting his encounters with law enforcement at the age of 11. He dropped out of school in the seventh grade and escalated from minor theft to rape.

Criminal History

On November 6, 1981, at the age of 14, Jerome Dennis, along with his brother William, committed a rape in downtown Newark. They were arrested after reporting the attack themselves. Jerome was convicted in December 1981 for rape, false imprisonment, and armed robbery, and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with the possibility of release after 10 years.

Murders

After serving 10 years of his 30-year prison sentence, Jerome Dennis was granted early release in October 1991. Within two months of his release, he began his killing spree.

• Robyn Carter - Age 41, attacked on December 16, 1991, in Newark. She was raped and strangled to death. Her body was discovered the same day.
• Elizabeth Clenor - Age 30, abducted on February 15, 1992, in Newark. She was raped and bludgeoned to death. Her body was found in an abandoned house.
• Stephanie Alston - Age 30, attacked on February 21, 1992, in Newark. She was fatally stabbed and her body was dumped approximately 50 yards from Clenor's body.
• Jamillah Jones - Age 16, attacked on April 10, 1992. Details of her attack are less documented, but she was one of Dennis's victims.
• Unidentified Victim - Attacked on April 11, 1992. Details of this victim are not well-documented.
