Antonio Rodriguez: The Kensington Strangler

Background

Antonio Rodriguez, born on October 28, 1988, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, became infamously known as "The Kensington Strangler." His criminal activities in late 2010 brought terror to the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. Prior to the murders, Rodriguez had a history of drug-related offenses and had been released from incarceration in August 2010 after serving a three-month sentence for a felony drug charge. As a felon, he was required to submit his DNA into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) on October 25, 2010. However, due to a backlog of cases, his DNA was not processed promptly, delaying his identification in subsequent crimes.

Crimes

Between November and December 2010, Rodriguez committed a series of heinous crimes, targeting vulnerable women in the Kensington area. His modus operandi involved sexual assault followed by strangulation. The victims were often posed in degrading positions after death, indicating a disturbing level of depravity.
