Introduction

The New Bedford Highway Killer is an unidentified serial killer responsible for a string of murders in and around New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1988. The killer targeted women, many of whom struggled with addiction and worked as sex workers. Their bodies were discovered along highways in the region, particularly along Route 140, Interstate 195, and Route 88.

• Dawn Mendes - Last seen in September 1988. Her remains were discovered on November 29, 1988, along Interstate 195.

Pattern of the Crimes

All of the victims were young women who went missing between March and September 1988. The killer disposed of their bodies along highways, often in secluded areas. Many of the victims had struggled with drug addiction and had connections to the sex trade, making them vulnerable targets.
