Early Life and Initial Criminal Offenses

Hugh Bion Morse was born on January 9, 1930, in Kansas City, Missouri. Over the course of his adult life, Morse worked in a variety of transient occupations across the United States, including roles as a truck driver, hotel clerk, car wash attendant, taxi driver, farm worker, bellboy, dishwasher, dry cleaner, and telephone installer. His criminal activity initially began with property crimes before escalating into severe violent offenses. During the early 1950s in California, Morse engaged in a series of burglaries in Los Angeles, which resulted in a conviction, a six-month jail sentence, and three years of probation. Morse's criminal trajectory took a darker turn into sexual assault. In 1955, while residing in Fairfield, California, he lured two eight-year-old girls into an alleyway under the guise of offering them ice cream and sexually assaulted both children. Following his arrest, he was committed to the California State Hospital, where medical authorities formally evaluated and declared him a sexual psychopath. In later interviews with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Morse admitted that he frequently engaged in voyeurism, prowling near residences to spy on unsuspecting women inside their homes.

The Washington State Murders and Assaults

Morse escalated to lethal violence in late 1959 in the Pacific Northwest. On November 7, 1959, Morse broke into the home of 28-year-old Glorie Brie in Spokane, Washington. Once inside the residence, he sexually assaulted and murdered her. Ten months later, on September 26, 1960, Morse committed his second known murder in Washington, breaking into the home of 69-year-old Blanche Boggs, whom he raped and murdered. Shortly after the murder of Blanche Boggs, Morse carried out another home invasion in Washington. On October 25, 1960, he targeted 23-year-old Beverly Myers. Morse severely beat Myers inside her home during the assault, but she managed to survive her injuries. Three days later, on October 28, 1960, Morse traveled to Reseda, California. Armed with a knife, he broke into the home of his estranged ex-wife, Virginia Morse, and launched a physical attack against her before fleeing the state to escape law enforcement. ...
