Dillon Siebert and the 2020 Denver Green Valley Ranch Arson Murders

Overview

In the early morning of August 5, 2020, a house fire at 5312 Truckee Street in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch neighborhood killed five members of two related Senegalese immigrant families. Investigators determined the blaze was intentionally set by three teenagers—Kevin Bui (then 16), Gavin Seymour (then 16), and Dillon Siebert (then 14)—who mistakenly believed someone at that address had stolen a phone.

The Crime

According to court records and news reports, Bui had been robbed in July 2020 and used a phone-tracking app to pinpoint what he believed was the robber’s location. He recruited Seymour and Siebert, obtained masks and gasoline, and in the overnight hours of August 4–5, 2020, the trio set the fire inside the home. The flames spread rapidly; three occupants survived by jumping from second-story windows, but five others died of smoke inhalation.
