Overview
On November 22, 2022, Andre Marcus Bing, a 31-year-old overnight team lead at a Walmart Supercenter in Chesapeake, Virginia, opened fire on coworkers during a routine evening meeting, killing six employees and wounding others before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Bing had worked at the store since 2010. The attack occurred just days before Thanksgiving and shocked the Hampton Roads community and the nation.

According to investigators and contemporaneous local reporting, the first 911 calls came in around 10:12 p.m. after shots were fired in the store’s break room at Walmart Supercenter #1841, 1521 Sam’s Circle, Chesapeake, VA 23320. Responding officers found multiple victims inside the store; some victims died at the scene while others later died at area hospitals.
Weapon and Planning
Authorities said Bing legally purchased a 9mm handgun the morning of the attack. Police later recovered a self-described “death note” from his phone, released publicly with redactions; in it, he referenced grievances related to the workplace. Evidence also indicated he had practiced shooting earlier that day.
