According to prosecutors, Aaisha Abdulla and her two sons were shot inside the family's residence on Ellen Drive in Cheektowaga on Monday, June 1, 2026. The house was located in a residential neighborhood east of Buffalo. Authorities said Mohamed used a 9-millimeter handgun that was legally registered to him. A concerned relative contacted authorities after family members were unable to reach anyone inside the home. At approximately 3:30 p.m., Cheektowaga police officers responded to the residence to conduct a welfare check. No one answered the door. After officers entered, they discovered Abdulla and both children dead from gunshot wounds. The victims were found together inside what had been their family home. Police Chief Brian Coons said officers had not previously been called to the residence and that Mohamed did not have a known criminal record. The absence of a documented history of police responses at the home left investigators with few immediately apparent warning signs or explanations for the violence. The Killing of Shukri Muthana

Approximately one hour before police entered the Cheektowaga residence, Buffalo officers had been dispatched to a separate shooting at a store in the 1000 block of Grant Street near Military Road. The business was located in Buffalo's Black Rock neighborhood, roughly a 15-minute drive from the family's home. Police received the shooting report at approximately 2:38 p.m. Officers found 43-year-old Shukri Muthana suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency personnel attempted to help him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Muthana, a resident of Lackawanna, was working as a clerk at the store when he was killed. Local reporting identified the business as Aref's Deli and described Muthana as an owner or worker associated with the neighborhood store. Prosecutors accused Mohamed of intentionally shooting Muthana before the discovery of the three victims in Cheektowaga. Authorities said Mohamed, his family and Muthana were members of the same Yemeni community in the Buffalo area.
