On August 3, 2010, a mass shooting occurred at the Hartford Distributors warehouse in Manchester, Connecticut, where employee Omar Sheriff Thornton fatally shot eight co-workers and then killed himself.
Background
Thornton, a 34-year-old driver, had been called to a disciplinary meeting after surveillance video showed him stealing beer. During the meeting he signed a resignation letter; moments later, he produced a handgun and opened fire inside the facility.
The Attack
The shooting began shortly after the workday started, during a busy shift change. In the span of minutes, Thornton moved through parts of the warehouse and office areas, killing eight employees and seriously wounding two others before taking his own life as police converged on the building.
